Monthly Mom Nursery Story

This is Wendy and baby Harper. This is their story.

“I was a few days over my due date when she decided to make her appearance. I had a long and excruciating labor and was rushed into a c-section when my cervix started to thicken. This was a sign to my doctor that the baby wasn’t in the right position. Twelve minutes and 14 staples later she was right.”

“My first nursing experience was somewhat hazy, it was about 3:00am. I had a friend with me that was a lactation educator, and the night nurse. It went well, but a few days later I felt PAIN. Harper would nurse 15 minutes on side, then 15 on the other, and when that wasn’t enough, another round of the first breast. She was a serial eater.”

“My girlfriend that nursed her babies made it seem so easy. She didn’t mention that I could have a good fight ahead of me. I had sore nipples. They cracked and bled and around day five I was ready to throw in the towel. That is when I called Bellies and they got me in touch with a lactation consultant that walked me through the whole thing again. She helped me with the baby’s latch and showed me what to look for and really reassured me that I was doing alright!”

“After about two weeks things started looking up. She is still always hungry and seems to be snacking for more ‘meat and potatoes’ every two hours or so. It took time for me to get used to nursing all day long, but now I look at it as our time. A special time and a special bond that no one can take from us.”
